Office moves
IT for a new office or a relocation
The technology side of moving or opening an office in Cornwall: inventory, a desk plan, a window you have agreed, and checks on the first morning. Building work and furniture stay with you. The IT decisions are written down early enough to act on.
Before the move
An office move starts with an inventory: computers, docks, printers, the cabinet, the lines, and anything that exists only in one place. The new rooms are described as they are, including power, patch panels, access rules and the date the landlord says the space can be used.
From that, a list is written of what must be ordered, and by when, if the IT is not to wait on a line or a piece of furniture. Ordering the line, the building contract and the furniture remains with you. The list is so those decisions are visible.
Labels and the desk plan
Every item that moves is labelled to a desk plan you sign off. The label matches a person or a place, not a hope that someone will remember which box the accounts PC was in. Cables that matter are marked so they can be put back as they were.
People are told what they need to take home the night before, and what must stay. Passwords are not written on the labels. Access details stay with the named contact and with the people who already hold them.
The move window
The window is agreed with you. It may be while the office is closed, or in phases if part of the business has to keep going. We do not assume a weekend. The plan says what will be unavailable, and from when until when.
If something cannot be moved in the window, it is named before the day, with the consequence. A network that is also being redesigned is specified as network work, so a like-for-like move is not mixed up with a redesign in the same hour.
The first morning
Someone accountable is on site or on the telephone when people arrive. Checks cover mail, files, printing and Wi-Fi, using a real account rather than a guess from the cabinet. Anything still open is listed, with the person responsible and whether it blocks work.
Staff who were not part of the move get a short note of what is different: a new printer path, a new Wi-Fi name, a system that is waiting on a line. Data does not move to personal devices as a shortcut. If a copy is made to bridge a gap, the note says where it is and when it will be removed.
