Networks and Wi-Fi
Office networks, changed when you can spare them
Planning and changes for the network an office actually uses: cabinets, Wi-Fi, and the separation of staff and guests. The work is timed so people know what will pause, and the previous setup is kept until the new one is accepted.
What is surveyed
Before a change, we look at the cabinet, the switches, the Wi-Fi, the path to the internet line, and which devices are allowed to talk to each other. We note the supplier of the line and the limits of the rooms: power, patch panels, and any rule the landlord has set.
The survey is written in ordinary language. It names what is staying, what is proposed, and which parts need a builder, an electrician or the line supplier rather than a configuration change.
Staff and guest separation
Office devices and guest devices are placed on separate networks so a visitor's phone cannot see files, printers or tills. Shared printers and screens are placed deliberately, not left on whichever network happened to be open.
Passwords for Wi-Fi are changed when staff who knew them leave, if the agreement includes that care. The password is not taped to the cabinet as the only record. The note says who holds it.
The change window
Network changes are booked. The office is told what will stop working during the window, for how long that is expected, and how we return to the previous configuration if the new one is not accepted.
Where the business cannot pause, the work is phased: one area, then the next, with a point at the end of each phase where you can stop. Remote support covers people who are away from the office on that day, so a change in the building is explained to them before they reconnect.
After the change
We test the paths you rely on: a staff laptop, a guest device, printing, and the line-of-business system you name. You are present for that test or you nominate someone who can say whether the result is usable.
The accountable person is the contact named for the project. Open items are listed, with who is responsible for each, including items that sit with the landlord or the line supplier. A network change that stays in the same building is this service. A move to other rooms is an office move.
